In this video tutorial, I will show you how to crochet the Puff Stitch. I will show you how to work this stitch with alternating rows of double crochet, as well as how to create a swatch of straight Puff Stitches. See below for a chapter list. Today I will be teaching you how to crochet the puff stitch

This stitch is featured in two of my favorite patterns, the puffs in pico set and the

In this tutorial I'm going to teach you two different swatches. We're going to start off with this one

It's an alternating row of double crochet and puff stitch. And I find this is a really great way to learn the puff stitch

And after that, I'm going to teach you how to work the puff stitch into a base chain

and create a swatch of just solid puff stitch. I do like the look of both of these swatches

They have their own little personalities to them. To do this tutorial, all you're going to need is some yarn

and a hook. Now, myself, I'm using Lion Brand Heartland. This color is Yosemite. And it's a number four

worsted weight yarn. And I'm using a number six crochet hook

Now, when I learn a new stitch, I like to learn it over a base row of stitches

I just find it a little easier to manage learning this brand new stitch when I'm not trying to work into a base chain, because I know base chains are so finicky

So, we're going to start off with a base row of double crochets

And you're going to need a chain number that is a multiple of two

So we're going to start off with 20 chains. So one, two, three, ah, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fourteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, nineteen, nineteen, twenty

all right and now you're going to place a double crochet into the fourth chain from your hook just like that

and this first chain three here that's your first double crochet the first double crochet this

first double crochet that you made is actually your second double crochet and then we're going to

So now we have 18 double crochets. And you're going to turn

So this first stitch has already worked. We're going to begin our puff stitch in the next stitch

So to begin this puff stitch, you're going to yarn over, insert your hook into that stitch and pull up a loop

You want to pull up this loop to about the height of a double crochet

You don't want to have it all the way down here like you're going to complete a double crochet

You want to pull it up so that it's the height of this double crochet that you first made

See that? And then you're going to yarn over. insert your hook in the same stitch, yarn over, and pull up another loop

means when you go to make your next puff stitch you have to skip one stitch

So we're going to skip a stitch and working into the next stitch, we're going to make another

puff stitch. We're going to yarn over, insert your hook into that stitch, yarn over

and pull up a loop. Remember to pull it up nice and tall to the height of a double crochet

practice to train yourself to make these loops so loose. You're going to want to, you know, tighten it up like this to make a double-crust

So we're going to turn in chain three. remember this first chain three counts as your first double crochet and we're going to double

I actually quite like doing the puff stitch this way because when you alternate the

the puff stitch with the double crochet stitch, it makes sure that the puffy side of the puff

stitch is all on one side. If you'll notice, if you flip it over, this side is less puffy. It has a little

bit of a different texture, which is nice depending on how you want your design to look, right

So next, I'm going to show you how to work the puff stitch into a chain, and then we're going to do a solid swatch of just puff stitch

Okay, now we're going to make a swatch of just solid puff stitches. So you're going to need a chain, and you're going to need your chain to be a multiple of two plus four

So we're going to start with a chain of 22. So one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fourteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty one, twenty-two

Okay. Now, you're going to start with your first puff stitch working into the fourth chain
