Free Crochet Shawl Pattern – All About That Drape
When I created the All About That Drape Top, I knew the stitch pattern would also be perfect for a shawl. As soon as I was able, I set about creating this beautiful piece.
Lacy and textured stitches combine with Expression Fiber Arts’ gorgeous, fingering weight Moongleam yarn to make a soft and wonderfully drapey shawl that will add warmth and style to any outfit. This free crochet shawl pattern works up quickly, so you may be tempted to make one in every colour-way!

All About That Yarn!
To make my shawl, I used Expression Fiber Arts Moongleam Fingering in the Spontaneous Hues kit. This yarn is 50% cotton/50% mulberry silk, and so unbelievably soft! This blend is perfect for those with a sensitivity to wool, but who still want the softness and drape of luxury wool blend yarn.
The colours in Spontaneous Hues range from a light lavender shade, to a medium purple shade, and finally to a deep purple, almost blueberry shade. The colours co-ordinate perfectly together.
The individual yarns have a slightly tonal quality, with lighter and darker sections throughout the length of the yarn. I love this kind of yarn, because it adds dimension to your project without overshadowing the stitch pattern.
I am a huge fan of Expression Fiber Arts yarns. If you’d like to check out their Moongleam Fingering yarns, you can find them by clicking the button below.

Gauge:
The gauge swatch for this shawl is worked into the pattern. If you are aiming for a shawl the same size as mine, I recommend you try to follow the gauge. If not, the gauge doesn’t really matter too much. Just be sure to use the proper hook size for the yarn you are using so you can achieve a nice drape.
Notes:
Ch1 at the beginning of a row is never considered a stitch.
Ch1 between stitches does count as a stitch.
Ch3 at the beginning of a row is considered a dc.
A Vst consists of a (dc, ch1, dc) all in one stitch.

Weave in your ends, and you’re done! Depending on the fiber content of your yarn you may wish to block your project. The yarn I used is 50% cotton/50% Mulberry silk. Wet blocking helped to stretch out the lace, define the stitches, and increase the overall size of my shawl. My shawl was 74” W x 37” H after blocking.
I hope you love your new crochet shawl, and I look forward to seeing all of your beautiful pictures on Ravelry!
