I have always loved the look of chevrons and was very excited to have the chance to give this chevron scarf my own twist. It’s nice and wide with mixed cluster and third loop stitches to add texture.
Plus, I added instructions for turning this beautiful free crochet scarf pattern into an infinity scarf or a cute cowl because you know I love to have options!

Instructions
This scarf is worked widthwise, making it easy to adjust the length as you go. Once the desired length is achieved, a single crochet and picot border is added. I have also added instructions for making this into a cowl or infinity scarf.

Repeat rows 2-13 until you have achieved your desired length. Be sure to end on a repeat of row 6 or row 12 (1 did a total of 150 rows). Do not turn at the end of your last row. Do not bind off.

Creating a Cowl or Infinity Scarf
If you would like to turn this scarf into a cowl or infinity scarf, then you simply sew the ends of the scarf together to form a ring. I would finish on a repeat of row 12, then use the whip stitch to sew the bottom of the starting chain to the 3rd loop of the last row. This would create a more continuous look.
Border
Begin with the RS facing you. Note: If you are making a cowl or infinity scarf, simply join your yarn anywhere on one of the long sides and sc around using the instructions for Long side 1. Then bind off and repeat for the other side.
- Long side 1:
Ch1. Sc along side of scarf in the following manner: *Work 1sc into the side of the 1st row. Work 2sc into the side of the next row.** Repeat from * to ** until you have worked all the way down the side.
Short side 1:
Once you have reached the short end, you will begin working into the bottom of the starting ch: (Sc, pic, sc) in 1st ch. Sc in next 4 chs. *(Sc, pic) in next ch. Sc in 4 chs. (2sc, pic) in next ch. 2sc in next ch. Sc in next 3 chs. (Sc, pic) in next ch.** Sc in next 4 chs. Sc2tog twice. Sc in next 3 chs. Repeat from * to **. Sc in next 5 chs. (Sc, pic, sc) in last ch.
Long side 2:
Next you will sc along the other long side of the scarf in the same manner that you did the first long side.
Short side 2:
Once you have reached the other short end, you will work into the top of the last row you worked for the body of the scarf: (Sc, pic, sc) in 1st st. *Sc in next 3 sts. (Sc, pic) in next st. Sc in next 4 sts. Sc2tog twice. Sc in next 3 sts. (Sc, pic) in next st. Sc in next 4 sts.** (2sc, pic) in next st. 2sc in next st. Repeat from * to **. (Sc, pic, sc) in last st. Ss to join to 1st st of border.
Weave in your ends, and you’re done!
